Executive Management

Chief Executive Officer - Chairman of the Board

As the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of U.S. Energy Development Corporation, Jordan Jayson determines the vision and strategy of the firm, as well as oversees the implementation of all change management. A strong proponent of business growth Mr. Jayson, in coordination with members of the executive leadership team, drove the transition of U.S. Energy from an Appalachian-based producer to a diversified exploration & production (E&P) operating firm with assets located in multiple oil & natural gas basins. Under his leadership, the firm is in its best financial position since its inception in 1980.


As a result of his ongoing efforts to grow financial reserves, reduce debt, and increase cash flow, Mr. Jayson has directly strengthened U.S. Energy’s balance sheet and bottom line. Among his many business accomplishments, Mr. Jayson created multiple committees within the organization including safety, hedging, investment & finance, employee benefits, and ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance). 


Mr. Jayson joined the firm in 2009 as the Vice President of Business Development. In 2014, he was promoted to CEO, becoming the second-generation CEO. During his tenure, Mr. Jayson led U.S. Energy to invest in, operate, and/or drill more than 2,400 wells in 13 states and Canada; deploying more than $1.5 billion on behalf of its partners.


Prior to U.S. Energy, Mr. Jayson spent 10 years working on Wall Street where he was responsible for portfolio management and trading on behalf of his respective firms. He held positions at Arnhold S. Bleichroeder and S.A.C. Capital, respectively.


Currently, Mr. Jayson serves on the Board of Directors for The Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth. He is an active member of YPO, TIGER 21, PathNorth, the National Association of Corporate Directors, the Independent Petroleum Association of America, the Fort Worth Wildcatters, the Petroleum Club of Houston, the Dallas Petroleum Club, the Avon Old Farms Riddle Society, the Avon Old Farms National Council Quail Coalition, and the Ruffed Grouse Society. He is also a lifetime member of Trout Unlimited and Ducks Unlimited.


Mr. Jayson earned his bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and his MBA from Texas Christian University’s Neeley School of Business. He received a designation of Aresty Scholar from the Wharton School of Executive Education and is pursuing his OPM from the Harvard School of Business.

Executive Vice President and Director

Matthew Iak is the Executive Vice President of U.S. Energy Development Corporation and a member of the company’s Board of Directors. He has overseen the capital raise of more than $1.5 Billion in capital since he joined the company in 2005.

Mr. Iak has extensive knowledge of private placement, Regulation D, and estate and tax planning strategies. He has led the construction and underwriting of multiple new investment structures in the oil and gas space which include, energy 1031 exchange funds, private capital acquisition funds, and most recently qualified opportunity zone funds.

In addition to being on the Board of Directors at U.S. Energy, Mr. Iak is a member of the company’s second generation leadership team and serves as the President for a series of family real estate and real estate management companies. He is also the CEO and President of U.S. Energy’s Managing Broker Dealer, Westmoreland Capital Corporation.

Prior to joining U.S. Energy, Mr. Iak worked as a financial advisor and oversaw client assets in excess of $1 Billion.

A highly sought after public speaker, Mr. Iak is frequently invited to present within the financial community on oil & gas economics, taxation, and financial planning. Mr. Iak is a graduate of Canisius College and holds his FINRA Series 7, 24, 63, and 66 licenses.

Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Standifird has served in various positions within the industry including Vice President of Finance and Controller.  He brings extensive experience and exposure to public and private E&P companies and has been a key player in analyzing, negotiating, financing, and closing acquisitions during his career.  Brandon has played a key role in the closing of multiple public and private debt deals including the closing of a syndicated $500MM credit facility as well as a $300MM public debt deal.  Brandon has experience in asset valuations, modeling, hedging, corporate budgeting, and accounting.  Brandon is a graduate of accounting from Brigham Young University and is a certified public accountant.

Vice President - Corporate Development

Todd C. Witmer is Vice President of Corporate Development for U.S. Energy bringing more than 20 years of oil and gas industry experience. Mr. Witmer joined U.S. Energy in 2001 as a Geologist and has served in various leadership and executive positions, focusing primarily on geology, prospect development, A&D and strategic planning throughout his tenure.  

Since 2010, much of his experience focused on projects in the Barnett, Anadarko, Eagle Ford, Permian, Powder River and the Williston Basins.  Mr. Witmer began his career focused in the Appalachian Basin as the geologist responsible for the development of more than 1,200 wells in New York and Pennsylvania, as well as multiple Marcellus Shale projects in southwest Pennsylvania.  He has also played a lead role in acquisitions and divestitures for U.S. Energy and is directly responsible for acquisitions with a total transaction value over $200 Million.

Mr. Witmer is a certified Petroleum Geologist (CPG #6366) with significant geological experience in various basins.  Mr. Witmer earned his Bachelor of Arts degree and  Master of Science degree in Geology, a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Studies from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and MBA from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Vice President - Operations

Kevin Duncan brings more than 35 years of experience in the oil & gas industry to his position as Vice President of Operations for U.S. Energy Development Corporation. In his role, Mr. Duncan oversees and manages all phases of U.S. Energy’s drilling, completion, and production operations.


Prior to joining U.S. Energy, Mr. Duncan held executive and management positions with private equity backed, public, and private oil & gas companies. Most recently, he served as Chief Operating Officer at Crossing Rocks Energy where he coordinated the horizontal Eagle Ford drilling operations in Burleson County, Texas, which reduced drill days by more than 70% and lowered costs by over 50%. Prior to this, he served as Senior Vice President of Operations for Atlantic Exploration implementing a four rig program in the Delaware Basin targeting vertical Wolfbone along with horizontal Third Bone Spring and Wolfcamp. He was also the Vice President of Production for Classic Hydrocarbons where he proved up an undeveloped East Texas position by executing a vertical Travis Peak/Cotton Valley, horizontal Cotton Valley, and horizontal Bossier Shale exploitation program. Mr. Duncan has held management positions for Quicksilver, Encore Acquisition, and Range Resources managing horizontal Barnett Shale development along with conventional assets in the Permian and East Texas areas. Mr. Duncan began his career in 1985 as a petroleum engineer with Breck Operating.


Mr. Duncan graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum engineering and is a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas.

Senior Management

Vice President - Broker Dealer Relations

Michael Haven joined U.S. Energy Development Corporation in 2011 as a Key Accounts Manager. Following several strategic partnerships that dramatically expanded the company’s selling group, he earned a seat on the Firm’s Leadership Team and today serves as the Vice President of Broker-Dealer Relations. 


Mr. Haven oversees U.S. Energy’s Key Accounts Division, working alongside multiple key corporate stakeholder groups which include Third Party Due Diligence and Back-Office Due Diligence personnel. In his role, Mr. Haven provides a thorough understanding of key customer and stakeholder needs. This knowledge is paramount while he serves as the conduit between U.S. Energy’s customers and the Firm’s team members. 


Mr. Haven is credited with expanding U.S. Energy’s selling group, including the addition of several large independent broker dealer firms and registered investment advisor (RIA) offices. Throughout his tenure at U.S. Energy, he has created relationships with financial industry advocacy groups which aid in the understanding and growth of direct investments and the role they play in a diversified portfolio. 


Prior to his career with U.S. Energy, Mr. Haven worked for several Fortune 500 companies in sales and market management positions. He is frequently invited to present within the financial community about oil & gas taxation and gas mitigation strategies including value-based selling. He travels throughout the country and internationally speaking with broker dealers, financial advisors, and tax professionals. 


Mr. Haven received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Canisius College, holds a Series 22 license, and is a member of the Alternative & Direct Securities Association (ADISA) , The Institute for Portfolio Alternatives (IPA) and The National Due Diligence Association. (TNDDA). He is also a Board Member of several local charities including City Lacrosse, and The Buffalo Police Athletic League. 

Vice President - Land & Corporate Counsel

Greg G. Brown is the Vice President of Land & Corporate Counsel for U.S. Energy Development Corporation. With more than 20 years of experience in the oil & gas industry, Mr. Brown has extensive knowledge in surface and mineral management, including the negotiation of oil and gas leases, farmouts, farmins, participation agreements, production sharing agreements, production allocation agreements, joint operating agreements, purchase and sale agreements, and all manner of surface use agreements. Prior to moving into the oil & gas industry, Mr. Brown engaged in the private practice of law, specializing in contract negotiation, estate planning, and real property transactions and participated in numerous trials and hearings both in court and in chambers.


His professional experience involves managing all land aspects of a multi-rig drilling program, including clearing title, proposing wells, and managing working interest partners. He has also negotiated and closed multiple acquisitions, divestitures, farmouts, farmins, acreage trades, and other transactions. Prior to his tenure at U.S. Energy, Mr. Brown gained experience working at Conoco, Inc., J-W Operating Company, and Laredo Petroleum, Inc.


Mr. Brown earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Texas and a Juris Doctorate degree from Oklahoma City University School of Law.  He is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association and the American Association of Professional Landmen.

Vice President - Technology

Daniel Boyd is the Vice President of Technology for U.S. Energy Development Corporation and joined the company in 2018. Mr. Boyd is responsible for overseeing and managing the Firm’s technology infrastructure and management. 


In his role, Mr. Boyd helped successfully launch an electronic investor onboarding system and implement an electronic accounts payable invoicing system.  He also transitioned the firm’s sales and service departments to a modern Microsoft Dynamics CRM and migrated U.S. Energy’s server infrastructure securely to the cloud. Mr. Boyd was instrumental in implementing the Traction Entrepreneurial Operating System, as well as assisted with the creation of an automated well election process.


Prior to joining U.S. Energy, Mr. Boyd gained valuable oil & gas technology experience holding positions as a Senior Software Engineer and IT Director/GIS Manager. While with Petromax Operating, Mr. Boyd designed and managed the company’s information and technology security infrastructure, GIS mapping system, internal databases enabling efficient reporting of key performance indicators, and an array of custom software applications. 


After his career with Petromax, Mr. Boyd worked with WildHorse Resources, where he designed a reporting system that enabled the company to efficiently track key metrics for several major acquisitions for an asset comprising over 400,000 net acres.


Mr. Boyd attended the University of Texas at Austin and is pursuing his Executive MBA degree from the Neeley School of Business at Texas Christian University.
